RECORD: S690. Wallace, A. R. 1911. Mr. A. R. Wallace and the Insurance Act. The Times No. 39781 (29 December): 6.
REVISION HISTORY: Transcribed (double key) by AEL Data. RN1
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES.
Sir,—During the last week I have heard that my name has been mentioned in several papers as a strong opponent of the Insurance Bill, and to-day I learn that the same statement has been made in The Times.
As I do not know what the exact allegation with regard to myself is will you be so kind as to send me a copy of your paper containing it (for which I enclose four stamps)? In the meantime allow me to say that I have made no such statement and that my opinion is wholly favourable to the Bill as being the best that could be done in the present state of public opinion. I have often privately expressed my great admiration of the manner in which Mr. Lloyd George has carried through Parliament so complex and beneficent a measure.
Yours truly,
ALFRED R. WALLACE.
Old Orchard, Broadstone, Dorset, Dec. 27.
[∵ So far as we are aware, no statement of Mr. A. R. Wallace's views as to the Insurance Act has been published in The Times.]
