Note on Old Orchard Broadstone headed paper, undated, in A. R. Wallace's? hand, quoting from J W Cross, "George Eliot's Life" Vol 3, p. 164, mentioning her pleasure in reading, in 1872, A. R. Wallace's "Eastern Archipelago" (sic). Place: Malaya Notes: This was inside a letter to Fanny Wallace/Sims of 1893 when listed but can't have been an original enclosure as house at Broadstone was not built until c 1902. Last date based on the possibility that A. R. Wallace intended to use the extract in his autobiography, published that year. |
