Buff envelope approximately 13 cm X 10 cm labelled in pencil, possibly in two different hands, "Geological & Glacial | Photos - | Ananda C. Swamy. | Aarschlucht." The words "Photos - Ananda C Swamy. | Aarschlucht." are almost certainly in A. R. Wallace's hand, "Geological & Glacial" may be in another hand (WGW's?) or added at a later date. When listed this envelope contained ten small undated photographic prints, nine showing geological features, probably glacial, and one apparently showing a devastated forest of tree stumps, possibly after a fire or tornado, though it may be a view of a petrified forest. Two may be of Aarschlucht (a narrow glacial gorge with a lake at the bottom in Aar, Switzerland) but are not labelled and do not show a lake. There is no photograph of or obviously by, Ananda Coomaraswamy. The prints have been listed separately as WP17/8/1-10 |
